Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapy is a regulated health profession that promotes function to help individuals engage in meaningful activities (occupations). Occupational Therapists help clients and/or family members identify barriers to success and then strive to collaboratively build treatment plans that will help the clients meet their goals.

For children, these occupations typically include self-care activities, play/leisure and school-related activities.

Skill development is promoted through the use of functional activities in a positive, stimulating and playful environment.For adults, occupational therapy typically follows an accident, injury or diagnosis. Treatment works to improve engagement in self-care routines, productivity (work), and leisure activities. Goals are collaboratively developed and may involve physical, cognitive or emotional components. Services may include home safety assessment, home management skills, developing ergonomic workstations, and/or assistive device recommendations.
